Sarah Shipley died in Brighton of a heart disease at the residence of Major Stephen B. Rose at 6 o'clock a.m. August 5 or 7, 1881, age 22 years, 2 months, 2 days. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Anderton Shipley, well known in this territory. She was born in American Fork, Utah, May 3, 1859, was baptized at 8 years old, June 12, 1880, and about a year ago, June 17, 1880, she received her endowments in the House of The Lord.
She was a girl of great faith and estimable in character, gentle, adorable and kind. She won the hearts and was never known to have a single enemy. She was a wise and able counselor in her father's family and could always comprehend well the condition of affairs and judge correctly. In her last illness she called for the Elders and was often administered to. She called all her father's family around her previous to her departure, which she knew to be imminent, and gave them each advice and counsel, beseeching them to continue to be faithful to the Gospel and keep the spirit of the Lord. She had no fear of death but the utmost confidence in her Heavenly Father's love.
Her remains were taken to American Fork on Saturday, the 8th and on Sunday the funeral service was held in the meeting house in that city. Bishop Harrington and Elder Whittaker were the speakers. Miss Shipley was buried by the side of her little sister Mary Eliza in the American Fork Cemetery.
We deeply sympathize with the sorrowing family while we are assured that with Sarah all is well.
Note: Sarah was sealed as wife to Levi Richards 28 September 1892 by proxy in the Salt Lake Temple. I have no idea who this man is.
